PREHISTORY: The Paleolithic Prehistory

the human past, since the man stands on the ground to the invention of writing, is the field of study of prehistory. This period would have begun about three million years ago and has been divided into two periods: Stone Age and Metal Age. The longest period of human history known as the Stone Age and is characterized by the man makes preferential use of this material for making tools and daily utensils
The Stone Age is divided into three phases: the Palaeolithic, named comes from the Greek "paleo" meaning old and "lithic" which means stone. In other words, is the Old Stone Age. It is followed by the Mesolithic, a period of transition. Finally, there is the Neolithic, the last phase of the Stone Age, where the man is able to domesticate plants and animals.

The Paleolithic
The Paleolithic was developed during the Pleistocene period, characterized by that the Earth was covered with extensive ice sheets and endured extreme cold or ice ages. It is believed that the main cause of this cooling was the change of Earth's orbit around the Sun, which made the duration and intensity of the stations prolonged. The first men had to endure long and very cold winters, while summers were short and not very warm. Then

know some aspects of the life of Palaeolithic man:

FROM SIDE TO ANOTHER
Paleolithic people form small groups averaging 20 to 25 people, who are often called bands . Should move according to the stations to facilitate the search of different food sources and materials for its caves, clothing and tools, for it is said that they were nomads.
Early Paleolithic men, ie the homo habilis and homo erectus, used guns rather coarse stone, which suggests they were not great hunters. They were probably scavengers, ie taking advantage of the meat of dead animals. But the activity that was made harvesting of fruits, flowers, mushrooms, roots, seeds, nuts, insects and eggs. In addition, hunting and fishing, using harpoons and spears.

FIRE CONTROL
One of the most important discoveries for humanity was to control the fire. Early human groups took advantage wildfires, such as those caused by lightning, but did not know how to produce. Today we know that Homo Erectus were living in China the first to produce and control fire half a million years ago. It was a momentous event: making life easier in cold areas, provided protection against some animals and allowed to cook food making it more digestible.

HOW DID?
Paleolithic people had no way of knowing why they produce rain, eclipses or disease. To explain resorted to animism, ie believed that the forces or elements of nature like the sun, trees and animals had a spirit that could be reached and influenced to act on their behalf.

ART As man evolves, appear in the qualities that make him different from his ancestors, this is possible by the development of intelligence. Thus we find the first cave paintings. These paintings appear with the arrival of Homo sapiens and were inside the caves they inhabited. Showed hunting scenes. Some think that these paintings were made for magical purposes and others think that only show the relationship with the world around them. Also arise the first burials, which suggests that they believed in life after death.

Later, when homo sapiens sapiens emerge (Cro-Magnon) small statues were carved from bone, stone and ivory. The favorite subject was the female figure, which was generally thick enough to highlight the attributes of fertility. The tools were refined and built houses with animal skins.
